Abstract

Breastfeeding is one of the best investments for survival and improving the health, social and economic development of individuals and nations. Improving optimal breastfeeding practices according to recommendations can prevent more than 823,000 child deaths and 20,000 maternal deaths every year. Globally, breastfeeding rates are much lower than needed to optimally protect the health of women and their children. Less than half of newborns begin breastfeeding within the first hour after birth. As many as 41% of babies aged less than 6 months are exclusively breastfed, far from the 2030 global target of 70%. Meanwhile more than two-thirds of mothers continue to breastfeed for at least a year. However, by the age of two years, breastfeeding rates drop to 45%. Community service activities are carried out in South Tangerang City. The target is 12 breastfeeding mothers on December 17 2023. The methods used are 1) taking an approach, 2) observing and collecting data, 3) conducting interviews, 4) providing counseling and providing material about exclusive breastfeeding. Results of the mother's knowledge questionnaire about exclusive breastfeeding. In the pre-test, the score was 17% good, 33% fair and 50% poor. Meanwhile, the post-test results obtained a good score of 92% and a fair score of 8%.
