Abstract

This study synthesizes evidence on the relationship between pressure and entrepreneurial success and clarifies the roles of entrepreneurial courage and resilience as psychological mechanisms that shape entrepreneurs’ responses to adversity. A focused systematic literature review was conducted following the reporting principles of PRISMA 2020. Studies published between 2020 and 2025 were identified through open scholarly indexes, journal-publisher platforms, PubMed/PMC, and institutional repositories using combinations of the terms entrepreneurial stress, life pressure, adversity, hardship, resilience, coping, entrepreneurial courage, business survival, growth, and performance. Sixteen core peer-reviewed articles meeting relevance, bibliographic traceability, and contextual criteria were analyzed using thematic synthesis. The review shows that pressure does not have a linear relationship with entrepreneurial outcomes. Challenge stressors may increase activation and performance, whereas hindrance stressors tend to impair well-being and constrain action. Resilience receives the most consistent support as an adaptive capacity linking adversity to survival, continuity, and growth. Entrepreneurial courage facilitates decision making, innovation, and action under uncertainty, although direct evidence of its mediating role remains limited.
