Penerapan Kompres Hangat Jahe Merah untuk Mengurangi Nyeri Kronis pada Pasien Gout Arthritis: Studi Kasus Asuhan Keperawatan Keluarga

Abstract

Gout arthritis may cause recurrent joint pain that interferes with mobility, rest, and daily activities. This case study describes family nursing care for a 57-year-old woman with gout arthritis who received warm red ginger compresses to help manage chronic pain in Ujong Blang Village, Kuta Baro District, Aceh Besar Regency. A descriptive case-study approach was used, following the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The care period lasted seven days, including two days for assessment and five days of intervention and evaluation. Three nursing diagnoses were identified: chronic pain, disturbed sleep pattern, and ineffective family health management. Warm red ginger compresses were applied for 15–20 minutes daily for five consecutive days, accompanied by pain monitoring, vital-sign assessment, and family health education. The patient's reported pain score decreased from 6/10 at the beginning of the intervention to 3/10 on the fifth day. Sleep and family understanding of gout management also improved according to the nursing evaluation. These findings suggest that a warm red ginger compress may be considered as a supportive, non-pharmacological nursing intervention for pain relief in this case.
