Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a chronic respiratory disorder characterized by persistent airflow limitation that is usually progressive and associated with a chronic inflammatory response of the airways and lungs to harmful gases and particulate matter. This study aimed to provide nursing care for patients with COPD experiencing ineffective breathing patterns through the application of the balloon blowing technique. Balloon blowing therapy is a modification of the pursed-lip breathing technique. Its mechanism is similar to deep-breathing exercises commonly used in adults but is adapted into a balloon-blowing activity, making the exercise more engaging and easier to perform. This study employed a case study design by implementing the nursing process, which included assessment, nursing diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The results showed that after three days of implementing the balloon blowing technique, the patient's breathing pattern improved, and the severity of dyspnea decreased. In conclusion, the balloon blowing technique can be used as an effective intervention to manage ineffective breathing patterns in patients with COPD. This technique has proven to be a safe, simple, and practical non-pharmacological alternative that can be easily performed at home.
