Abstract

This case study aimed to describe the implementation of nursing care for postoperative wound management in a patient with an endometriotic cyst undergoing laparotomy. A case study design was employed using the nursing process approach, including assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The subject was a 45-year-old female patient diagnosed with an endometriotic cyst and treated in Arafah 3 Ward at Dr. Zainoel Abidin Regional General Hospital, Aceh Province. Assessment findings revealed postoperative abdominal pain with a Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) score of 6, characterized as intermittent, throbbing, and localized around the surgical wound. The primary nursing diagnosis was acute pain related to physical injury agents secondary to surgical intervention. Nursing interventions included pain management, vital sign monitoring, deep breathing relaxation techniques, health education, and aseptic wound care. Evaluation results demonstrated reduced pain intensity, improved patient comfort, and the absence of wound infection signs. It can be concluded that systematic and comprehensive nursing care is effective in reducing postoperative pain, preventing complications, and promoting wound healing in patients undergoing laparotomy for endometriotic cyst management.
