Elderly are a vulnerable population at risk of developing hypertension due to degenerative changes in the cardiovascular system. The management of hypertension in older adults requires a comprehensive approach, including non-pharmacological interventions through dietary modification. This article aims to describe the understanding and implementation of the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet as a nursing intervention to reduce blood pressure in an older adult with hypertension. The method used was a case study involving Mrs. J (62 years old). The initial assessment revealed a blood pressure of 155/85 mmHg accompanied by limited understanding regarding hypertension management. The intervention consisted of education and demonstration of the DASH diet provided over three days. Evaluation showed a reduction in blood pressure from 151/85 mmHg to 148/80 mmHg, along with improved understanding of a low-sodium and high-fiber dietary pattern. The implementation of the DASH diet contributed to blood pressure reduction and enhanced health management in the older adult with hypertension. This intervention is expected to strengthen the client’s self-management in long-term hypertension control, thereby maintaining blood pressure stability and preventing potential complications.
