Eksistensi Kebudayaan Tokang Sarang di Desa Kejawan Kabupaten Bondowoso

Abstract
Rain repellent ritual is a tradition that still exists in Indonesian society, especially in Kejawan rural area, Bondowoso Regency. Despite the technological developments and modernization, many people in Kejawan still continue to use the services of a rain handler in order to prevent rain when they are holding an event. The research methodology used in this research was qualitative method. The data were collected through observation, interview, and documentation. This research was conducted in Kejawan, Bondowoso with the aim of gaining and digging information regarding rain handler. This research also aimed to know public opinion in relation to rain handler in Kejawan, Bondowoso. Based on the results of the research, it was known that rain handler in Kejawan was called “tokang sarang”. Tokang sarang has been around for a long time and it has become the tradition of the community to use its service when they are going to hold an event. Different methods were used by “tokang sarang” in Kejawan to prevent rain, including reading the holy Quran and Shalawat specifically to invoke Allah’s blessings, lighting incense, and using Blackstone (hajar aswad) oil.
