Analisis Konflik Batin Tokoh Utama Dalam Film Black Coal, Thin Ice: Kajian Psikologi Sastra

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the inner conflict of the main character, Zhang Zili, in the film Black Coal, Thin Ice (白日焰火) using a literary psychology approach. The analysis focuses on the conflict among the personality structures of id, ego, and superego based on Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytic theory. The film portrays the psychological journey of a former detective who experiences trauma, life failure, and moral pressure that influence his behavior and personality. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method. The data are obtained from dialogues, scenes, and character expressions in the film that reflect the main character’s inner conflict. Data are collected through observation and note-taking techniques and analyzed by classifying forms of inner conflict according to the dominance of id, ego, and superego. The findings indicate that Zhang Zili’s inner conflict is characterized by the dominance of id in the form of impulsive and aggressive behavior, the ego’s efforts to adjust to reality, and the pressure of the superego that generates feelings of guilt and moral conflict. The imbalance among these three personality structures leads to the psychological instability of the main character. This study is expected to contribute to the development of literary psychology studies, particularly in film analysis.
