Abstract

Edward's Syndrome is an autosomal chromosomal disorder caused by the presence of an extra chromosome 18. One of the complications of Edward's Syndrome is hydrocephalus, which occurs due to increased intracranial pressure, characterized by an accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid. Hydrocephalus can lead to serious problems, such as affecting the child’s growth and development, causing motor and intellectual impairments, and even disability and death if not treated promptly. The purpose of this case study is to explore the application of developmental care for neonate, who has Edward’s Syndrome and hydrocephalus, in the NICU at the Dr. Zainoel Abidin General Hospital, Banda Aceh. The research design used in this study is a case study. In the case of neonate, nursing problems were identified, such as developmental delays. The nursing interventions provided to the neonate included monitoring vital signs and implementing developmental care. After five days of care, it was observed that some developmental issues had been partially addressed. This scientific paper is expected to serve as a foundation for the development of nursing management by applying developmental care to optimize the growth and development of neonates in the future.
