Acute Respiratory Failure is the most common reason for patients to be admitted to the ICU, so it requires prompt and appropriate treatment, typically by administering mechanical ventilation to support lung function and meet the body's oxygen needs. The purpose of this case study is to describe nursing care for patients with Acute Respiratory Failure on Mechanical Ventilation. The methodology uses a case study with a critical nursing care approach that includes assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The results of the case study identified diagnoses of impaired gas exchange, decreased cardiac output, risk of ineffective cerebral perfusion, risk of electrolyte imbalance, impaired ventilator weaning, risk of aspiration, and risk of infection. Interventions carried out focused on monitoring respiratory status, hemodynamic status, level of consciousness, and vital signs; monitoring for electrolyte imbalance; maintaining a 30° head-up position; and preventing infection. Evaluation of nursing care management showed no significant improvement, but respiratory and hemodynamic status remained stable with mechanical ventilation. It is hoped that nursing care for patients with Acute Respiratory Failure will focus on the application of the principles of anticipation and early detection to prevent the rapid development of Acute Respiratory Failure.
